Steven Shortridge Art is a forum to showcase my artwork and make a positive statement about you and to improve your life.  Your lifestyle and well being is our purpose. We take an approach to showcase the best artwork as it is being created and share with you.

Sincerely, being an artist is an adventure in which you work by yourself to create your artwork.  It comes from within you and passes through your hands.  It’s great when you show your artwork in an art show or gallery and the public receives it.  My simple goal is to tell my stories about other people and to show a glimpse in their life.  Life is made of “special” moments  and I want to share that with you.

I have always enjoyed painting and I feel that it is my life’s calling.  I enjoy the creative challenge that comes with each painting.  My influences have been my father who was a carpenter who shared with me his joy of building houses.   Another influence is my mother who taught me to stretch myself as a person and aim high for the best that life has to offer.  I have been blessed.

I have a Masters Degree in Technology specializing in computer technology from East Tennessee State University.  This has helped me greatly in the fine arts area.  I received a Bachelors of Art and an Associate of Art from Virginia Intermont College.
I learned the values of persistence and dedication in my artwork.  Its not about me, it’s about the artwork.   Each painting is personal for me.  Some work.  Some do not.  It goes with the territory and I guess that makes a strong statement about me.

Like anyone else, I have my good days and not so good.  I try to make each one a memorable experience for you.  I hope you enjoy my work.  Over the next few months, I will have prints, postcards and note cards for sale.  If you would like a painting, my door is open for commissioned work.  Let’s share your story.  Thank you.

QUESTIONS to Steven

Q: Why do you paint?
A: I have always enjoyed observing people and the many personalities I have seen over the years.  I started draw people with the pencil when I was a teenager.  After working on my skills for the past twenty-five years (long story), I felt my work is in painting.   Being a visual storyteller is a lot of fun and a great way to go!

Q: What does Steven paint with?
A: He paints with gouache and watercolors.

Q: What is gouache?
A: It’s a great media I use to paint strong, vibrant paintings.  It has a gum base opacity substance.  This gives it a thick bright texture similar to oils.  Plus, it dries quickly.

Q:  How about watercolor?
A: It’s great for more traditional artwork.  It’s transparent and has a gentle effect on watercolor paper.

Q: Why a Christian based company?
A:  Hmmmm…I feel that it is my purpose to have a positive proactive company using Christian values.  To sum it up, this company is bigger than art.  I consider it a positive movement to influence a better change in life.  It’s better to create and inspire our friends.
